Activate EFTPS payment notifications

The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) tax payment service is provided free by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. After you've enrolled and received your credentials, you can pay any tax due to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) using this system.

The Income Tax Unit can send your U.N. estimated tax advance payments via electronic funds transfer (EFT) to both IRS and NY State if you enroll yourself with the EFTPS.

Once enrolled, please provide us with a copy of the confirmation page after blacking out the PIN; we do not require PIN, it will be used by you to log onto the website to check the estimated advance payments made. If you need to pay self-employment (SE) tax you can also set up automatic deductions from your account for your portion of SE tax.

If you are married and file a joint return with your spouse, we suggest you enroll as the primary taxpayer. Our experience shows that there are fewer issues with crediting the UN estimated advance payments to your account when you are the primary taxpayer.

The UN cannot enroll staff members in EFTPS.

Enrollment has to be done by the staff member.

NOTE: When enrolled in EFTPS check your account each quarter when notified that a Tax advance has been made by the United Nations to ensure that it posts correctly to your account.

For security reasons EFTPS administration deactivates any account which shows no activity for 15 months or more.

TIP: If your account is approaching a 15-month period of inactivity make an EFT small payment - $2 – to avoid deactivation
